Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Thank you for checking out my blog here about my favorite place on Earth, Eastern University.

As you may notice the picture to your right has me and two other people in it.

Why would I decide to use a picture that has other people in it? Well the first thing to note is that I like the way I look in this picture, the second and vastly more important reason is that I am one of many, many students on campus who understand the truth behind being a part of a community.

The two people in this picture have been a deep part of my community experience at Eastern and I expect them to stay an intricate part of my growth as a human over the years. At Eastern there are opportunities to grow spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically that you just don’t find at other campuses. These opportunities, as I believe, are because of this rock solid community that seems so unmovable.

I remember the first day I moved into my dorm room in Gough last year. It was August 19th, 2009. I was dropped off by my parents... and left to find my own way. I came early for the Leadership Grant Program’s (LGP) Orientation and did not really have much of an opportunity to process my new independence before I was tossed into a group of 20 (including myself) young men and women who were just as confused as I was.

I want all of my readers to know that I have never in my life experienced the type of love, compassion, and authenticity that these 19 other strangers offered me without having any past relationship. We clicked. We laughed. We just were ourselves. Below is a picture of us on our first day of orientation and not all of them were able to stay at Eastern but the bonds we made, and the conversations we had will be ingrained in my heart in mind for a lifetime.

I went on to continue to foster these relationships and still do to this very day. I have made many more friends since then, some closer than others, but all the while I have basked in the blessings from God through community.

I will be thankful for the genuine community here at Eastern for the rest of my days.
That I am sure of.

Peace & Love

Hey all! I am the dude on the left in purple. I just so happen to be a Sophomore double major in English-Writing and Communications, a member of the Leadership Grant Program and the co-founder of Eastern's radio station...Oh, and did I mention I'm from Jersey?
